Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about smile design, evaluations, timelines, and payments at Clínica Dra. Nixer Cerinza.

What is the difference between resin and ceramic smile design?

Resin is a more affordable aesthetic material lasting about 5 years with proper care (diet, hygiene, and habits). It can slightly change color and lose shine over time, but it is easy to repair and needs maintenance at least twice a year. Ceramic is a high-aesthetic, more durable option lasting up to about 15 years. It does not change color, stain, or lose shine, needs less maintenance (1–2 times a year), and offers a more natural, sophisticated result — the preferred choice for lasting high aesthetics.

Do you grind down the teeth for a smile design?

It depends on each case. Not every patient needs reduction. When needed, it is minimal, controlled, and selective — only in specific areas, never aggressive. It is mainly used when teeth are flared or rotated (to align the smile and keep veneer thickness even) or when teeth are too long (to avoid an exaggerated look). When teeth are well aligned, treatment can be very conservative or with little to no significant reduction.

What types of evaluations do you offer?

  1. Free virtual photo evaluation via the call center for an initial review of suitability and treatment type. 2) Personalized virtual evaluation with the doctor (USD 40) for a more detailed review and real-time Q&A. 3) In-office evaluation (COP $120,000) for a full clinical diagnosis and precise treatment plan. No definitive diagnosis or final price is given without prior review; all photos are evaluated by the doctor first.

How long does treatment take?

Resin smile design takes about 3 business days (2–3 visits): cleaning + upper design, lower design, then follow-up with a protective night guard. Ceramic smile design takes about 5 business days (4–5 visits) because of lab work: cleaning/preparatory care, tooth preparation + impressions, try-in, final cementation, then bite adjustment and night guard delivery.

What does ceramic smile design include?

We deliver a complete aesthetic result in the smile zone — not isolated procedures. It typically includes cleaning, cavity removal, restoration replacement, veneers and/or crowns as needed, gum adjustments when required, and a protective night guard at the end. It does not include procedures that affect bone (supporting tissues).

What if I am missing a tooth?

Two main options: a fixed bridge (can be included in the smile design with no extra fee, but only recommended if adjacent teeth are already compromised or budget is limited, since it requires significant reduction of neighboring teeth) or a dental implant in two phases — smile design + implant surgery, then the final crown after about 6 months of healing. The implant has an additional cost.

When is an implant needed and how much does it cost?

An implant is recommended when a tooth is missing. Approximate fees: implant fixture COP $2,200,000; implant crown COP $2,000,000. Fees may vary with bone quantity and quality. Process: implant surgery (~30 minutes), 6 months of healing for osseointegration, then the final crown. A temporary may be possible in some cases and is decided during surgery. Waiting the full 6 months is essential to reduce failure risk.

What if the patient has no teeth?

The ideal option is a fixed hybrid prosthesis on implants (typically 4–6 implants) in two phases. Phase 1 (surgical): implants, possible grafts or bone remodeling, and a temporary prosthesis — about COP $14–16 million. Phase 2 (after 6 months): definitive prosthesis — about COP $8–10 million.

How does payment work and how do I reserve an appointment?

To schedule treatment, a 20% deposit of the total fee is required via a payment link. The remaining balance is paid at the clinic. All prices are in Colombian pesos (COP) and are not dollarized. For ceramic, the full balance must be paid by the try-in day. For resin, payment is required from the start of treatment.

Does treatment include lodging and transportation?

No. Treatment fees do not include lodging or transportation. The clinic works with partner agreements for more accessible stays and transfers, and can help with hotel recommendations near the clinic, safe areas, and reliable transport contacts — managed separately, with guidance throughout your visit.

Does the procedure hurt?

It is generally well tolerated. Anesthesia is used when needed for comfort. Mild temporary sensitivity afterward is possible and manageable.
